NANP : North American Numbering Plan

The North American Numbering Plan is used in 25 countries, including the United States and several overseas territories and several Caribbean countries. All countries that are part of the NANP use the same country code for telephone numbers: +1.
All countries are using telephone numbers consisting of three-digit area code, followed by three digit central office code and then four digit station number.
Note that some North American countries do not belong to the NANP.

  • 0 : assistance provided by operators
  • 00 : Long distance assistance given by operator
  • 011 : IDD or International Access Code to call countries outside NANP
  • 211 : Social services and community information
  • 311 : Non-emergency police and City government to declare noise complaints, and small injuries...
  • 411 : Local telephone : directory service
  • 511 : Tourist information, and information about Traffic, road.
  • 611 : Telephone repair service
  • 711 : Service used by people with hearing or speech disabilities
  • 911 : Emergency dispatcher : fire department, ambulance, police etc.
